Naoshima in June
Not the best time
June is rough. The rainy season makes Naoshima's outdoor art experience soggy and uncomfortable.
Weather
June ushers in the rainy season with high humidity and temperatures climbing toward 30°C. Expect 12-14 rainy days with everything from drizzle to heavy downpours. The air gets thick and sticky - indoor museums become refuges.

June Tips
- •Pack a good umbrella and waterproof shoes - you'll need them
- •Chichu Art Museum and Lee Ufan Museum offer cool, dry sanctuary from humidity
- •Hotel prices drop but weather makes outdoor sculpture viewing miserable
All Months
Spring and fall offer Naoshima at its finest. April brings cherry blossoms that frame Kusama's pumpkin sculptures beautifully, while November delivers crisp air and golden light that makes Ando's concrete architecture glow. Avoid July and August – the humidity is brutal, and the museums get uncomfortably crowded with tour groups. Winter brings a different kind of beauty, with fewer tourists and dramatic skies over the Seto Sea, but some outdoor installations close for maintenance. The Setouchi Triennale art festival runs every three years (next in 2025), bringing special exhibitions but also massive crowds. If you visit during the festival, book accommodation six months ahead and arrive early at popular museums. Tuesday closures affect most museums, so plan accordingly.
