Naoshima in November
Great time to visit
November extends the autumn magic with fewer crowds than October. Ideal conditions for exploring Naoshima's outdoor installations.
Weather
November continues the golden season with mild temperatures in the high teens and low humidity. Rain is minimal - maybe 5 days of light showers. Clear, crisp days with excellent visibility across the Inland Sea make this ideal for photography.

All Months
Spring and fall offer Naoshima at its finest. April brings cherry blossoms that frame Kusama's pumpkin sculptures beautifully, while November delivers crisp air and golden light that makes Ando's concrete architecture glow. Avoid July and August – the humidity is brutal, and the museums get uncomfortably crowded with tour groups. Winter brings a different kind of beauty, with fewer tourists and dramatic skies over the Seto Sea, but some outdoor installations close for maintenance. The Setouchi Triennale art festival runs every three years (next in 2025), bringing special exhibitions but also massive crowds. If you visit during the festival, book accommodation six months ahead and arrive early at popular museums. Tuesday closures affect most museums, so plan accordingly.
