Sintra in February

Not the best time

Still off-season with all the pros and cons that brings. Better than January but not by much - save this for when you want Sintra practically to yourself.

Weather

February stays cold and wet, though you might catch a few sunny breaks between the rain systems. The hills around Sintra remain foggy and the Atlantic winds keep things feeling raw. It's still very much winter here, despite what the calendar says about approaching spring.

February Tips

  • February is slightly drier than January but still pack for rain every day
  • The 434 bus runs less frequently in winter - check schedules to avoid long waits
  • Book restaurants in advance as some close for maintenance during slow season

All Months

April through June brings mild weather and blooming gardens without summer crowds. Rhododendrons and camellias flower in Monserrate's gardens, and you can actually enjoy Pena Palace's terraces in peace. September and October offer the best compromise — warm days, fewer tourists, and autumn colors in the parks. Hotel prices drop 30% compared to summer peak. July and August? Prepare for chaos. Temperatures hit 35°C, palaces overflow with tour groups, and restaurant waits stretch to an hour. If you must visit in summer, arrive at palace opening times (9:30 AM) or after 4 PM. Winter (November-March) sees rain and shorter days, but you'll have places mostly to yourself. Some palace gardens look bare, but interiors stay impressive. Pack layers — hilltop temperatures drop 5-10 degrees below Lisbon.
