Sintra in November

Good time to visit

November is hit-or-miss weather-wise but offers great value and minimal crowds. Come prepared for rain and you might be rewarded with some magical atmospheric days.

Weather

November brings cooler temperatures and the return of regular rainfall, though nothing like the winter deluges ahead. Days are shorter but often crisp and clear between weather systems. The dramatic skies and moody lighting can make palace visits atmospheric, if chillier.

November Tips

  • November can be lovely between rain systems but weather is unpredictable
  • Tourist services start reducing hours - double-check opening times
  • Hotel rates drop significantly making this great value for money

All Months

April through June brings mild weather and blooming gardens without summer crowds. Rhododendrons and camellias flower in Monserrate's gardens, and you can actually enjoy Pena Palace's terraces in peace. September and October offer the best compromise — warm days, fewer tourists, and autumn colors in the parks. Hotel prices drop 30% compared to summer peak. July and August? Prepare for chaos. Temperatures hit 35°C, palaces overflow with tour groups, and restaurant waits stretch to an hour. If you must visit in summer, arrive at palace opening times (9:30 AM) or after 4 PM. Winter (November-March) sees rain and shorter days, but you'll have places mostly to yourself. Some palace gardens look bare, but interiors stay impressive. Pack layers — hilltop temperatures drop 5-10 degrees below Lisbon.
