Sintra in July
Good time to visit
July is beautiful but brutal - perfect blue skies come with sweltering heat and massive crowds. Only recommended if you love hot weather and don't mind paying premium prices for everything.
Weather
July brings hot, dry weather with temperatures that can feel intense when exploring exposed palace grounds. The heat builds throughout the day, making early morning and late afternoon the best times for sightseeing. Virtually no rain means guaranteed sunny days but also brown, crispy landscapes.

- •July hotel rates peak - expect to pay 50% more than shoulder season
All Months
April through June brings mild weather and blooming gardens without summer crowds. Rhododendrons and camellias flower in Monserrate's gardens, and you can actually enjoy Pena Palace's terraces in peace.
September and October offer the best compromise — warm days, fewer tourists, and autumn colors in the parks. Hotel prices drop 30% compared to summer peak.
July and August? Prepare for chaos. Temperatures hit 35°C, palaces overflow with tour groups, and restaurant waits stretch to an hour. If you must visit in summer, arrive at palace opening times (9:30 AM) or after 4 PM.
Winter (November-March) sees rain and shorter days, but you'll have places mostly to yourself. Some palace gardens look bare, but interiors stay impressive. Pack layers — hilltop temperatures drop 5-10 degrees below Lisbon.
