Versailles in March
Good time to visit
March marks the turning point where Versailles starts waking up from winter. Weather's unpredictable but crowds are still manageable before the spring rush begins.
Weather
March teases spring with warmer afternoons but mornings stay frosty. Rain becomes less frequent but when it hits, it's heavy. The gardens start showing tiny green shoots by month's end, though most trees remain bare.

- •Book accommodations early as Easter crowds arrive
- •Gardens start reopening sections closed in winter
All Months
April through October offers the best weather and full garden access. May brings perfect temperatures and blooming flowers, but also the biggest crowds. September strikes the ideal balance – warm days, fewer tourists, and the gardens still look spectacular.
Winter visits work if you focus on the palace interiors. The Hall of Mirrors looks just as impressive in January, and you'll actually get photos without strangers in them. But Marie Antoinette's estate closes sections in winter, and the gardens lose their magic.
Arrive by 9 AM any season to beat the tour buses. Tuesday through Thursday see smaller crowds than weekends. The palace stays open until 6:30 PM in summer, giving you time to explore after the day-trippers leave.
