Versailles in May
Great time to visit
Peak spring beauty makes May absolutely stunning at Versailles. The weather's nearly perfect for exploring both palace and gardens, though you'll pay premium prices and fight crowds.
Weather
May brings some of the year's most pleasant weather with warm sunny days and cool evenings perfect for strolling. Rain becomes less frequent and lighter. The gardens reach peak spring beauty with roses beginning to bloom in the Queen's Garden.

All Months
April through October offers the best weather and full garden access. May brings perfect temperatures and blooming flowers, but also the biggest crowds. September strikes the ideal balance – warm days, fewer tourists, and the gardens still look spectacular.
Winter visits work if you focus on the palace interiors. The Hall of Mirrors looks just as impressive in January, and you'll actually get photos without strangers in them. But Marie Antoinette's estate closes sections in winter, and the gardens lose their magic.
Arrive by 9 AM any season to beat the tour buses. Tuesday through Thursday see smaller crowds than weekends. The palace stays open until 6:30 PM in summer, giving you time to explore after the day-trippers leave.
