Vientiane in August
Not the best time
Still deep in monsoon season with frequent flooding and daily storms. The upside? You'll practically have the temples to yourself and accommodation costs plummet.
Weather
Continues the wet pattern with heavy rains and high humidity. Thunderstorms can be dramatic and sudden. The city feels more tropical and lush, but also more challenging to navigate.

All Months
November through March gives you the best weather. Days hit 25-30°C, nights cool down to 15-20°C, and rain stays away. December and January are perfect — clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and the Mekong runs low enough to reveal sandy beaches.
April and May bring serious heat. Temperatures push past 35°C, and the air gets heavy before the rains start. But crowds disappear and prices drop. If you can handle the heat, you'll have temples mostly to yourself.
Rainy season runs June through October. It doesn't rain all day, but when it does, streets flood quickly. The upside? Everything turns green, the air clears, and accommodation costs hit rock bottom. Just pack good rain gear and flexible plans.
