Vientiane in May
Good time to visit
The calm before the monsoon storm. Still hot as blazes but with increasing rain showers that offer temporary relief. Low tourist numbers mean great deals but tough weather conditions.
Weather
Hot and getting stickier as humidity builds before monsoon season. Occasional thunderstorms provide brief relief but make the air even more humid afterward. Still uncomfortably hot most days.

All Months
November through March gives you the best weather. Days hit 25-30°C, nights cool down to 15-20°C, and rain stays away. December and January are perfect — clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and the Mekong runs low enough to reveal sandy beaches.
April and May bring serious heat. Temperatures push past 35°C, and the air gets heavy before the rains start. But crowds disappear and prices drop. If you can handle the heat, you'll have temples mostly to yourself.
Rainy season runs June through October. It doesn't rain all day, but when it does, streets flood quickly. The upside? Everything turns green, the air clears, and accommodation costs hit rock bottom. Just pack good rain gear and flexible plans.
