Good time to visit

Heat and humidity start making outdoor activities uncomfortable during midday hours. But crowds thin out and prices drop noticeably. Early birds and night owls can still enjoy the backwaters.

Weather

Summer heat arrives in earnest. Daytime temperatures soar to 36°C with oppressive humidity making it feel even hotter. Nights offer little respite at 24°C. The occasional pre-monsoon shower provides brief relief.

April Tips

  • Schedule activities for early morning or evening only
  • Air-conditioned houseboats become essential, not luxury
  • Hydrate constantly - the humidity will drain you

All Months

October through March is peak season for good reason — temperatures hover around 28°C and the monsoon damage is repaired. December and January see the most crowds and highest prices, but also the most reliable weather. February and March offer a sweet spot with fewer tourists but still pleasant conditions. Monsoon season (June to September) shuts down most houseboat operations, and for good reason — the backwaters turn choppy and dangerous. April and May are brutally hot, with temperatures hitting 35°C+ and humidity that makes breathing feel like work. Book houseboats at least two weeks ahead during peak season, especially around Christmas and New Year when prices double.
