Brazzaville in January
Not the best time
January is tough going in Brazzaville - the combination of intense heat, humidity, and daily rains makes sightseeing a sweaty, muddy affair. Hotels offer discounts, but you'll spend more time indoors than you'd like.
Weather
January brings relentless heat and humidity to Brazzaville, with temperatures regularly pushing into the mid-30s. This is peak rainy season, so expect heavy downpours most afternoons that turn the red dirt roads into muddy rivers. The air feels thick and oppressive, especially along the Congo River.

All Months
May through September brings the dry season with cooler temperatures and less humidity. Daytime highs hover around 26-28°C (79-82°F) instead of the brutal 35°C (95°F) of wet season. Rain basically stops, making river trips and walking around much more pleasant. This period also coincides with festival season — the Fête de la Musique in June fills the streets with live performances. October through April gets hot and soggy. Daily afternoon thunderstorms flood streets and make getting around miserable. But hotel prices drop and you'll have tourist sites mostly to yourself. December and January see the heaviest rains. The city practically shuts down some afternoons when storms roll in. If you can handle the heat and humidity, wet season offers a different perspective on local life.
