Broome in February

Not the best time

February offers the spectacular Shinju Matsuri festival as compensation for the continued heat and rain. Still not ideal timing unless you're specifically here for the multicultural celebrations and don't mind sweating through them.

Weather

February continues the wet season misery with temperatures still hitting 33°C daily and lows around 25°C. The humidity remains brutal at around 75-80%, though cyclone season peaks this month. Rain comes in heavy bursts, often flooding roads temporarily.

February Tips

  • Monitor cyclone warnings closely and have evacuation plans ready
  • Book accommodations away from flood-prone areas near Roebuck Bay
  • Time your visit around Shinju Matsuri for the only real drawcard this month

All Months

Broome has two seasons — the Dry and the Wet. The Dry runs April through October, and that's when you want to be here. Temperatures sit around 25-30°C, humidity stays low, and rain is basically nonexistent. Peak season is May through September when accommodation prices double and you need to book months ahead. The shoulder months of April and October offer the best balance — good weather, smaller crowds, and reasonable prices. But here's what they don't tell you about the Wet season (November to March) — yes, it's hot and humid, but the storms are spectacular and accommodation is half price. Just know that some roads become impassable and tour operators shut down. Cyclone season runs December through March, so factor that risk into your planning.
