Broome in January
Not the best time
January is Broome at its most challenging - oppressive heat, daily storms, and humidity that makes everything sticky. Most locals flee south for good reason, but you'll have Cable Beach almost to yourself if you can handle the conditions.
Weather
January brings the peak of Broome's wet season with sweltering heat and humidity that'll leave you drenched in sweat within minutes. Expect daily temperatures around 33°C with overnight lows barely dropping to 25°C, plus afternoon thunderstorms that can dump serious rain. The humidity sits around 80% most days, making it feel even hotter.

January Tips
- •Book accommodation with serious air conditioning - ceiling fans won't cut it in this heat
- •Plan indoor activities for midday and save beach visits for early morning or late afternoon
- •Pack quick-dry clothing and waterproof gear for sudden downpours
All Months
Broome has two seasons — the Dry and the Wet. The Dry runs April through October, and that's when you want to be here. Temperatures sit around 25-30°C, humidity stays low, and rain is basically nonexistent. Peak season is May through September when accommodation prices double and you need to book months ahead. The shoulder months of April and October offer the best balance — good weather, smaller crowds, and reasonable prices. But here's what they don't tell you about the Wet season (November to March) — yes, it's hot and humid, but the storms are spectacular and accommodation is half price. Just know that some roads become impassable and tour operators shut down. Cyclone season runs December through March, so factor that risk into your planning.
