Valencia in December

Not the best time

December offers Valencia at its most affordable with festive Christmas atmosphere, but the weather won't inspire beach walks. Good for culture vultures who want the city to themselves.

Weather

December brings cool, often cloudy weather with frequent rain showers. While not harsh by northern European standards, it's Valencia's least appealing weather month. The Mediterranean looks gray and uninviting most days.

  • New Year's Eve celebrations at Plaza del Ayuntamiento

December Tips

  • Christmas decorations make the city center especially attractive
  • Many beach restaurants close for the season
  • Perfect time for museum hopping and indoor cultural activities

All Months

April through October gives you the best weather, but here's the thing about timing in Valencia: avoid Las Fallas (March 15-19) unless you're specifically coming for it. The festival is incredible - giant sculptures, fireworks, street parties - but hotel prices triple and the city becomes absolute chaos. May and June are perfect. The weather hits 25°C, the beaches are swimmable, and you beat the summer crowds. September and October work just as well - the sea stays warm from summer, but the tourist masses have gone home. Winter isn't terrible if you're on a budget. January temperatures hover around 15°C, many restaurants close for vacation, but you'll have the City of Arts and Sciences practically to yourself. Just don't expect beach weather.
