Fraser Island in April
Great time to visit
Finally, weather you can work with. April marks the beginning of Fraser Island's golden season with comfortable temperatures and manageable crowds.
Weather
Now we're talking. April delivers the first genuinely comfortable weather since last winter. Temperatures drop into the pleasant mid-20s, humidity becomes bearable, and those punishing daily storms finally ease up. You can actually enjoy walking around without feeling like you're in a sauna.

April Tips
- •Book Easter accommodation early - it's still a holiday period
- •Perfect weather for longer 4WD expeditions to remote beaches
- •Pack layers - mornings and evenings can be surprisingly cool
All Months
April through September offers the sweet spot – warm days, cool nights, and minimal rainfall. Water temperatures hover around 22°C, perfect for lake swimming without the summer crowds. This is peak season, so book accommodation and vehicle permits well ahead.
Winter (June-August) brings the clearest skies and best wildlife viewing. Humpback whales migrate past the eastern beaches, and cooler temperatures make hiking more comfortable. Night temperatures can drop to 10°C, so pack warm clothes for camping.
Avoid the wet season (December-March) unless you enjoy mud, mosquitoes, and flooded creek crossings. Stinger season also peaks during summer months, making ocean swimming risky even in the safer areas. But if you do visit, you'll have the island largely to yourself.
