Fraser Island in July
Great time to visit
School holidays bump up the crowds and prices slightly, but the weather remains absolutely perfect. Still one of the best times to visit.
Weather
July continues June's winning formula. Daytime temperatures sit comfortably around 21°C with brilliant sunshine and almost no chance of rain. Nights are genuinely cool - you'll want that sleeping bag rated for 10°C if you're camping. The trade winds keep things fresh during the day.

July Tips
- •Book ahead for school holidays - families flock here for winter sun
- •Best month for serious hiking and exploration
- •Lake McKenzie is at its most brilliant blue in the clear winter light
All Months
April through September offers the sweet spot – warm days, cool nights, and minimal rainfall. Water temperatures hover around 22°C, perfect for lake swimming without the summer crowds. This is peak season, so book accommodation and vehicle permits well ahead.
Winter (June-August) brings the clearest skies and best wildlife viewing. Humpback whales migrate past the eastern beaches, and cooler temperatures make hiking more comfortable. Night temperatures can drop to 10°C, so pack warm clothes for camping.
Avoid the wet season (December-March) unless you enjoy mud, mosquitoes, and flooded creek crossings. Stinger season also peaks during summer months, making ocean swimming risky even in the safer areas. But if you do visit, you'll have the island largely to yourself.
