Peak Fraser Island weather with off-peak prices. May delivers everything you want - comfortable temperatures, minimal rain, and fewer crowds competing for the best photo spots.
Weather
May hits the sweet spot. Days are warm but not oppressive, sitting in the comfortable mid-20s with low humidity. Rain becomes occasional rather than daily, and those famous Fraser Island sunsets actually become visible without storm clouds blocking them. Nights are cool enough for a light jacket.

- •Bring a light jacket for evening beach walks
All Months
April through September offers the sweet spot – warm days, cool nights, and minimal rainfall. Water temperatures hover around 22°C, perfect for lake swimming without the summer crowds. This is peak season, so book accommodation and vehicle permits well ahead.
Winter (June-August) brings the clearest skies and best wildlife viewing. Humpback whales migrate past the eastern beaches, and cooler temperatures make hiking more comfortable. Night temperatures can drop to 10°C, so pack warm clothes for camping.
Avoid the wet season (December-March) unless you enjoy mud, mosquitoes, and flooded creek crossings. Stinger season also peaks during summer months, making ocean swimming risky even in the safer areas. But if you do visit, you'll have the island largely to yourself.
