Fraser Island in September
Great time to visit
The end of Fraser Island's golden season. September gives you the last of the perfect weather before things start heating up again.
Weather
September starts the transition back toward warmer weather, but it's still absolutely beautiful. Temperatures creep up toward the mid-20s, humidity remains low, and rain is still uncommon. It's warm enough for comfortable swimming but cool enough for serious hiking.

September Tips
- •Last chance for truly comfortable camping weather
- •Perfect balance between warmth and coolness for all activities
- •Shoulder season pricing before the summer rush begins
All Months
April through September offers the sweet spot – warm days, cool nights, and minimal rainfall. Water temperatures hover around 22°C, perfect for lake swimming without the summer crowds. This is peak season, so book accommodation and vehicle permits well ahead.
Winter (June-August) brings the clearest skies and best wildlife viewing. Humpback whales migrate past the eastern beaches, and cooler temperatures make hiking more comfortable. Night temperatures can drop to 10°C, so pack warm clothes for camping.
Avoid the wet season (December-March) unless you enjoy mud, mosquitoes, and flooded creek crossings. Stinger season also peaks during summer months, making ocean swimming risky even in the safer areas. But if you do visit, you'll have the island largely to yourself.
