Juneau in December
Not the best time
December is for locals and the truly committed - dark, cold, and wet but with a cozy holiday spirit. You'll get authentic Alaska winter experience and rock-bottom prices, assuming you can handle the seasonal depression.
Weather
December brings the shortest days of the year with barely 6 hours of daylight and frequent snow mixed with rain. Temperatures stay around freezing with high humidity that makes the cold feel bone-deep. Storm systems roll through regularly from the Pacific.

All Months
May through September offers the warmest weather and longest daylight hours. July brings peak tourist season — expect crowds at major attractions and higher hotel prices. But you'll also get 18+ hours of daylight and the best chance of clear glacier views.
September is the sweet spot. Cruise ship crowds thin out after Labor Day, hotel rates drop, and you still get decent weather with stunning fall colors. Northern lights start appearing on clear nights.
Winter visits require serious planning. Many tour operators shut down, and daylight lasts only 6-7 hours. But if you can handle the cold and darkness, you'll have the place mostly to yourself. The aurora displays can be incredible on clear nights.
