Juneau in June

Great time to visit

June brings excellent weather and the start of peak season energy. Crowds pick up significantly, but the extended daylight and reliable conditions make it worth dealing with more people.

Weather

June delivers some of Juneau's best weather with mild temperatures and long daylight hours stretching past 19 hours. Rain still falls regularly but usually as brief showers rather than all-day soakers. The marine climate keeps things comfortable without extreme heat.

June Tips

  • Book everything well in advance - cruise ships start arriving in force
  • The Mount Roberts Tramway gets crowded after 10am
  • Early morning is best for popular spots like Mendenhall Glacier

All Months

May through September offers the warmest weather and longest daylight hours. July brings peak tourist season — expect crowds at major attractions and higher hotel prices. But you'll also get 18+ hours of daylight and the best chance of clear glacier views. September is the sweet spot. Cruise ship crowds thin out after Labor Day, hotel rates drop, and you still get decent weather with stunning fall colors. Northern lights start appearing on clear nights. Winter visits require serious planning. Many tour operators shut down, and daylight lasts only 6-7 hours. But if you can handle the cold and darkness, you'll have the place mostly to yourself. The aurora displays can be incredible on clear nights.
