Juneau in October
Good time to visit
October marks the real end of tourist season with cooler, wetter weather. But you'll get authentic local experiences and much lower prices if you don't mind feeling like you're living in a rain cloud.
Weather
October brings true fall weather with cooler temperatures and frequent rain systems. Daylight drops to around 10 hours, and you'll need layers for the chilly, damp conditions. Storm systems from the Pacific become more common and intense.

October Tips
- •Many tour operators close for the season by mid-month
- •This is actually great weather for cozy indoor activities like brewery tours
- •Hotel rates drop significantly as tourist season officially ends
All Months
May through September offers the warmest weather and longest daylight hours. July brings peak tourist season — expect crowds at major attractions and higher hotel prices. But you'll also get 18+ hours of daylight and the best chance of clear glacier views.
September is the sweet spot. Cruise ship crowds thin out after Labor Day, hotel rates drop, and you still get decent weather with stunning fall colors. Northern lights start appearing on clear nights.
Winter visits require serious planning. Many tour operators shut down, and daylight lasts only 6-7 hours. But if you can handle the cold and darkness, you'll have the place mostly to yourself. The aurora displays can be incredible on clear nights.
