Juneau in March
Not the best time
March shows promise with increasing daylight and the excellent Folk Festival, but weather remains challenging. It's transition season - not quite winter, definitely not spring yet.
Weather
March brings longer days and the first hints of spring, though snow still falls regularly. Rain becomes more common than snow as temperatures creep above freezing. Expect muddy conditions as snow melts, and the weather remains unpredictable with sudden changes.

March Tips
- •The Alaska Folk Festival fills hotels, so book early if visiting late month
- •Trail conditions are terrible with mud and ice - stick to paved paths
- •Some tour operators start reopening, but schedules are still limited
All Months
May through September offers the warmest weather and longest daylight hours. July brings peak tourist season — expect crowds at major attractions and higher hotel prices. But you'll also get 18+ hours of daylight and the best chance of clear glacier views.
September is the sweet spot. Cruise ship crowds thin out after Labor Day, hotel rates drop, and you still get decent weather with stunning fall colors. Northern lights start appearing on clear nights.
Winter visits require serious planning. Many tour operators shut down, and daylight lasts only 6-7 hours. But if you can handle the cold and darkness, you'll have the place mostly to yourself. The aurora displays can be incredible on clear nights.
