Juneau in January
Not the best time
January is brutal but cheap - perfect if you want Juneau to yourself and don't mind feeling like you're living inside a cloud. The lack of tourists means locals are extra friendly at places like the Alaskan Hotel bar.
Weather
January brings Juneau's coldest, darkest days with frequent snow and freezing rain. Temperatures hover around freezing, and you'll get maybe 6 hours of daylight on a good day. The Inside Passage stays relatively mild compared to interior Alaska, but expect gray skies and wet conditions.

All Months
May through September offers the warmest weather and longest daylight hours. July brings peak tourist season — expect crowds at major attractions and higher hotel prices. But you'll also get 18+ hours of daylight and the best chance of clear glacier views.
September is the sweet spot. Cruise ship crowds thin out after Labor Day, hotel rates drop, and you still get decent weather with stunning fall colors. Northern lights start appearing on clear nights.
Winter visits require serious planning. Many tour operators shut down, and daylight lasts only 6-7 hours. But if you can handle the cold and darkness, you'll have the place mostly to yourself. The aurora displays can be incredible on clear nights.
