Juneau in February
Not the best time
Still the off-season doldrums, but February edges slightly better than January with more daylight. You'll have museums and restaurants mostly to yourself, though many outdoor tour operators remain closed.
Weather
February stays cold and wet, but you start getting a bit more daylight each day. Snow mixes with rain regularly, creating slushy, slippery conditions around downtown. The marine climate keeps things from getting truly frigid, but the dampness makes it feel colder than the thermometer suggests.

February Tips
- •Waterproof boots are non-negotiable for walking around downtown
- •The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center offers great indoor refuge with views
- •Local restaurants offer winter specials since tourist season hasn't started
All Months
May through September offers the warmest weather and longest daylight hours. July brings peak tourist season — expect crowds at major attractions and higher hotel prices. But you'll also get 18+ hours of daylight and the best chance of clear glacier views.
September is the sweet spot. Cruise ship crowds thin out after Labor Day, hotel rates drop, and you still get decent weather with stunning fall colors. Northern lights start appearing on clear nights.
Winter visits require serious planning. Many tour operators shut down, and daylight lasts only 6-7 hours. But if you can handle the cold and darkness, you'll have the place mostly to yourself. The aurora displays can be incredible on clear nights.
